How it works

Fiberglass Pool Installation, step by step

The order of work. Playwell gives a project-specific schedule after the site review.

  1. Shell selectionYou choose a model and size from the manufacturer's line; the shape and depths come with it.
  2. Access checkThe delivery truck and crane need a clear path and reach to the hole, so access is confirmed before ordering.
  3. Excavation and baseThe hole is dug slightly larger than the shell and a level base is prepared.
  4. Set, level and plumbThe shell is craned in, leveled, and connected to the suction and return lines and equipment.
  5. BackfillBackfill is placed around the shell while it is filled with water, so pressure stays balanced on both sides.
  6. Coping, deck and barrierCoping and deck are installed, the safety feature is fitted, and the final inspection is scheduled.

Fiberglass Pool Installation: common questions

Can a fiberglass pool be installed where the water table is high?

It can, but the design has to account for groundwater pushing up on the shell. Orange County, for example, asks fiberglass permit applicants to show the method used to resist hydrostatic pressure based on soil conditions, plus the leveling, step support and backfill methods.

Is a fiberglass pool faster to install than concrete?

There is no shell to form or cure on site, which removes steps from the schedule. The overall time still depends on permits, inspections, delivery and the deck. Playwell gives a schedule after the site review.

Are fiberglass shapes limited?

Yes. Shapes, sizes and depths come from the manufacturer's molds, and the shell must be small enough to ship by road and reach the hole by crane.

Does a fiberglass pool still need a permit and a barrier?

Yes. Fiberglass pools need the same building, electrical and plumbing permits and must meet the s. 515.27, F.S., safety feature requirement before final inspection.
