Pool cost in Orlando
How much does a pool cost in Orlando?
Playwell Pools quotes every pool after a site review instead of publishing a price list, because the same size pool can cost very different amounts depending on construction type, soil and access, the deck, the enclosure, features and the engineering your building department requires. Here is what drives the number, and how to compare quotes.
What drives the cost of a pool
- Size and depth
- More surface area and depth mean more excavation, steel, concrete or a larger shell, more interior finish, and more water to heat and filter.
- Concrete or fiberglass
- A concrete pool is formed on site to any shape; a fiberglass pool is a factory shell with its own price, delivery and crane costs. Which costs less depends on the design and the site.
- Soil, groundwater and access
- Soft soil, groundwater close to the surface, slopes, tight side yards and long equipment paths add work. Orange County, for example, asks fiberglass applicants to show how the pool resists hydrostatic pressure, and asks for angle of repose engineering when it applies.
- Engineering and permits
- Sealed plans, hydraulic and energy worksheets, site engineering for features or retaining walls, and permit fees vary by jurisdiction and design.
- Deck
- Deck area and surface (poured concrete, pavers or stone) both change the total.
- Screen enclosure
- An enclosure is a separate structure with its own engineering and permit.
- Safety feature
- Florida requires one of five safety features before final inspection (s. 515.27, F.S.); a fence, cover or alarms each cost differently.
- Equipment
- Pump, filter, heater or heat pump, sanitation and automation, sized to the pool and features.
- Features and lighting
- Spas, sun shelves, water features, lighting and raised walls each add materials and labor.
- Interior finish and tile
- Plaster, aggregate or tile finishes and waterline tile differ in cost and lifespan.
How to compare pool quotes
Quotes are only comparable when they cover the same scope. Check that each one states:
- The exact pool size, depths and construction type.
- Every permit, engineering and inspection cost, and who pays them.
- What site work is included: excavation, haul-off, grading and any groundwater control.
- The deck: area, surface and drainage.
- The safety feature that will satisfy s. 515.27, F.S., and whether it is in the price.
- Equipment by make and model.
- Exclusions: electrical service upgrades, enclosure, landscaping, fence, restoration of the yard.
- The payment schedule and the warranty, in writing.
- The contractor's license number, checked on the Florida DBPR license search.
Pool cost: common questions
How much does a pool cost in Orlando?
Playwell does not publish a price list. Every pool is quoted after a site review, because size, construction type, soil and access, decking, enclosure, features and permit engineering all change the number. A written quote follows the review.
Why will Playwell not give a price over the phone?
Two pools of the same size can differ widely in cost once soil, access, decking, drainage and permit requirements are known. Quoting after the site review avoids a number that changes later.
Is a fiberglass pool cheaper than concrete?
Not always. It depends on the shell model, delivery and crane access, the deck and the site. When either type would suit your yard, ask for both to be priced.
Are permit fees included in the quote?
Ask every contractor how permit, engineering and inspection costs are handled, and get the answer in the written quote.
How do I check a contractor's license?
Search the license number on the Florida DBPR license search. Playwell's licenses are CPC1457140 (Certified Pool/Spa Contractor) and CGC1511541 (Certified General Contractor).
