Lighting Installation: common questions

Can lights be added to an existing pool?

Often, yes. It depends on whether the pool has existing niches and conduit. Playwell confirms what is possible at the site review.

Does pool lighting need a permit?

Yes. Pool lighting is electrical work and is permitted and inspected under an electrical permit by the local building department.

Do I need to worry about light shining onto neighbors?

Some cities set rules. The City of Orlando's residential pool checklist, for example, says pool lighting must be shaded and aimed away from neighboring properties.

Are LED pool lights worth it?

LED fixtures use less power than older incandescent pool lights and offer color options. Fixture choice is part of the lighting plan.
