License classes

What the license class tells you

Florida licenses pool contractors by class, and the class sets which pools a contractor may build. A commercial pool/spa contractor's scope covers any swimming pool, hot tub or spa, "whether public, private, or otherwise" (s. 489.105(3)(j), F.S.). A residential pool/spa contractor's scope is "a residential swimming pool, or hot tub or spa" (s. 489.105(3)(k), F.S.).

If you manage an HOA, condominium, hotel, apartment or public pool, check that your contractor's license record shows the commercial class. DBPR lists Playwell's CPC1457140 with the Commercial Pool/Spa Contractor qualification.

"Certified" matters too. A certified contractor holds a state certificate of competency and may contract in any jurisdiction in Florida without meeting that jurisdiction's separate competency requirements (s. 489.105(8), F.S.).
